Very nice. I liked this demo! Uhh... I'm going to learn more about this world later... (I don't have time to read) Oh, and I swear I'll be so mad if Parker picks my wife instead of me! ...And into husbando collection, he goes!
I'll be looking forward to the full release, Prika!
This is my favorite game of yours, Pri! I love Parker's personality and design so much! (that voice too!) I love how polished and high-quality this is. My only issue would be the glossary (like there are too many words that I need to read their definition first before I understand what they mean -- I'm a bit impatient about that, but I understand that it's for world-building purposes. It's just me having to speed run every game I could play due to lack of time and busyness lol) Anyway... I SO SO LOVE THIS. Like.. I'm inspired! I'm hooked! Your writing's improving as I've played your previous games too. I'm going to keep tabs on this one. Super awesome work! ^^
Ahzhsxhs aaaahh thank you so much, Izumi!! It makes me happy that you enjoyed the game so much!! π₯Ίππβ€
As for the glossary, another player also mentioned that there were a bit too many words at the start, so I'll keep this in mind for the later chapters to make the glossary entries a little more spread out πͺ Thank you for your feedback!! ππΈ
5 Stars most certainly! First of all, the story book like beggining really sets a fairytale tone right from the get go and is a fantastic introduction in my oppinion. The plot set up is great, the characters are SUPER fun and interact with one another so well. I love how completely ADORABLE Rue is, from the fluffy hair(which I absolutely adore of characters btw), to the super realistically written nervous habits that really bring her to life. And don't even get my started on the fittingness and cuteness of the "teacup" nickname; it made me squeal. And speaking of the giver of said nickname, you don't understand how much I already LOVE Parker, they're so cheeky and mischevious in all the best ways and the expressiveness of their sprites only serves to further this. I did not read too much of the game page, so you can imagine my(immensely positive) suprise at finding out the silly witch is gender ambiguous!! It's honestly still so rare, even in this day and age, to have a gender-ambiguous game character that's not either a side character or the MC. Speaking of that, I want Parker's gender, stat(<3). With two such wonderful characters, they really bounce off of one another really well and it makes for such an interesting and fun dynamic between the two that I just can't wait to see more of(gnawing, scratching at the walls I can't WAIT for more of this game to be released). Aside from that, the tactful use of sfx in a moment of silence struck me as well executed; it didn't feel too overwhelming and loud(ie constant sfx for everything) and instead both set and emphasised the awkward tone of a silence filled moment really well. My only critique of the game so far would be that, right after the grimorie is introduced, the world building and name dropping piles on the exposition just a tad
Thank you so much for such a sweet review!! π₯Ήπ I'm really happy you enjoyed the DEMO and the characters!! π Hehe it also makes me smile that you like Parker being nonbinary! π₯°
And thank you very much for the feedback as well, I'll keep it in mind so as not to make the glossary entries be so close together in newer updates! πͺ
God in the most ace way possible I am in love Parker my heart can't handle this. Also Rue is such an adorable little teacup I'm so excited for further updates!
Potion Pleasing has a wonderful premise and even better banter between characters.
Since Prikarin's choice to write canonical characters in their visual novels, we can see how the writing improves as they're able to write more natural characters and compelling worlds for the stories to take place in.
The reference screen is a nice touch to add context to the story without feeling intrusive whatsoever, and I'm only more excited to see how the potioncrafting mechanic will play out in the full release.
This is definitely a demo to look out for, and it's well worth the read.
This was an incredibly charming demo! It's SO polished, with so much thought put into the little details. The small storybook sequence at the start is very immersive, and I LOVED the execution of the signature for agreeing to the disclaimer - it's a clever idea that really foreshadows the "deal" that Rue enters with Parker (when she agrees to become their apprentice).
I absolutely loved the aesthetic, it's incredibly cohesive and well executed. The UI is beautiful - it's very floral and elegant. I especially like the twisting tree trunks on the save/load screen. The sprites and CG are gorgeously rendered and very expressive, and the painterly style of the backgrounds really helps to lend the game such a mellow, comforting mood. The composition of the title screen is ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS, I love the distorted perspective, the wisps of smoke, and the way the entries pop out of the bottom.
I really loved the dynamic between Parker and Rue! Parker's teasing and playful personality is a really good match for Rue's shy and subdued demeanor. It was fun seeing Parker get under Rue's skin, making her more than a bit flustered. Parker's VA did a fantastic job at making them sound suitably playful and mischievous. Overall the demo did a very good job of characterizing the two characters and their relationship in a short period of time, and I'm interested to see how these two develop in the future.
The setup of the story and mystery at the start is very intriguing, and I'm curious to see where it goes. I can tell that there's a lot of complex worldbuilding going on behind the scenes, and the game does a good job of introducing concepts to you slowly. The terms are understandable based on context clues, but I also liked the addition of the glossary, which gives a lot of good lore details!
Overall this was demo was SO intriguing, and incredibly polished - fantastic work!
Gosh this is such a sweet comment π₯Ίβ€π Thank you so much, Chatt!! I'm really happy you enjoyed it and liked all the details from the art and lore, it really means a whole lot!! π₯°β€π
Ahh, what a great demo! π Visually gorgeous and just dripping with lore, it feels like it's going to be super super special. You've got me HOOKED with the mystery and I'm very curious about the potion system and how it's going to fit into the story. I also love the glossary! It's such a clever way to avoid lengthy introductions and still provide the player with all the info they need!
Overall, very promising! I'll be looking forward to the full release π«Ά
Thank you so much, Hiro! I'm really happy you enjoyed it, especially when you created such a cool story and magic system for Quaint ππ
The glossary is one of my favorite additions to Potion Pleasing, I also felt that it was better than having the characters explain things that they should already know πͺ
Super intrigued by the demo! The world seems fascinating; I want to give Rue a hug; and I think Parker is going to shake up Rueβs world in a good way. :)
From a gameplay perspective, I love the the interactivity of being able to click on a name, and getting to read its lore entry; which is something I don't think I've seen on RenPy before.
WWCG had one of the best atmospheres and vibes I've ever felt in a visual novel, and I can see this also has a very specific tone it's giving off, intentional or not. Though it definitely seems to be considerably less dark.
You know I always feel worried when I make longer comments like these instead of comedic ones, because I feel like I come across as rude or snarky. Here's hoping this doesn't come across that way, because I loved this demo!
Thank you so much for playing the demo, I'm happy you enjoyed it!! β€οΈ Don't worry, you didn't come off as rude or snarky at all! π
You're right, WWCG definitely has a different vibe than Potion Pleasing! While both have mysteries, Potion Pleasing takes a bit more time to get into the darker parts of it (but this demo doesn't reach them quite yet). Something that I love from a lot of mystery stories is when things start off more light-hearted and slowly and progressively get darker π€
PARKER'S BOOTS ARE GIVING ME UNHOLY THOUGHTS ouajhfoejioaegfjij
In all seriousness, this visual novel was definitely worth the wait. It's showing a lot of promise, and I'm so excited to find out more about the lore of the place, and seeing how the potion crafting mechanic works alongside the story.
Lion the hedgehog, I swear you're so fast with your gameplays π As mentioned in the youtube comment, thank you so much, Lion, I'm really happy you enjoyed the demo and are looking forward to the lore and potion crafting mechanic!! πβ€οΈ

Just a little correction, though, Parker is nonbinary and their pronouns are they/them!
Me encanta mucho, uno de mis favoritos.
