Something about Oz & my projects in general

Hey, guys! I wanted to talk about something that I've been noticing for a while.

From time to time, I get comments of people getting excited about seeing Oz as a yandere or expecting all of my new projects to have a yandere. I want to clarify that this isn't the case. While I had a lot of fun writing Crowe (Where Winter Crows Go) and Invar (Hummingbird’s Crown), I don't want to ONLY write yandere characters.

In Oz's case, I feel the confusion might have risen because the old cover art depicts him with heart-eyes. However, as I mentioned when I talked about Crowe's redesign; Oz, Arthur & Aslan will be getting redesigns too (Oz's is already finished). This is so I don't have to rely on stock sprites anymore and so that I can call these characters 100% my own. Of course, this also means that the new cover art for Killer Trait won’t depict Oz with heart eyes. And, now that we’re here on the topic, I also want to mention that, unlike WWCG, Killer Trait isn’t a horror game but a thriller.

I wanted to clarify this again, just in case, since I mentioned it some time ago and not everyone might be aware of this. I know a lot of people will be disappointed that Oz isn’t a yandere, but I don’t want to write stories just for the sake of pleasing everyone. The stories I write are, first and foremost, stories that I’m interested in writing and reading. And I don’t really like to be classified as “a yandere writer” because I like to write a different variety of characters.

I’m not saying this to make anyone feel bad, that isn't my intention at all. I just wanted to bring attention to this matter since I’ve already experienced people being mad and/or disappointed about my stories for not having a type of character or theme they expected even though the game never had those tags in the first place.

If you're looking for a yandere or horror story, Killer Trait might not be for you.

Thank you for reading!

That's 100% a-okay, I def was thinking he was a yandere because of the cover, but playing the game he started giving me hotheaded tsundere vibes instead, which is also equally as great. I cant wait to play in the future when it's complete! :)

Nuh, i am up to ANYTHING, whether is it a yandere game or not. So i am looking forward to a full game or extended demo in any case :)
I liked your project so i will follow updates regardless if Oz is yandere or no

Honestly thats completely fine, I don't need him to be a yandere and I think a character with a sincere interest is extremely interesting! And lovely

I mean, yandere or not he's pretty neat. Would smooch regardless.

It's always nice to read your honest devlogs. You shed some light on the creative process and remind the audience that you, the author, are a person. :) Which I think is helpful to other devs as well. Although personally, I would find it funny to be called a "yandere writer" xD

I've played the demo and it is awesome! Can't wait for the full version to drop, even if it costs money, I'll make sure to download it to support you. It has an amazing concept and all, I'm in love with just the demo itself! >< I've read your info about Oz not being a Yandare and I actually really love that! I'm not really a big fan of yandare so this is really nice! I'll keep supporting and reading new updates!

Though i love Crowe, Oz is clearly different and i find the difference in personality  between the two of them refreshing and yeah still looking forward to killer trait.

That's totally fine, in fact that seems to make more sense.

I'm sticking my face in this computer screen checking if the full game is out every single day, Oz not being a yandere is not gonna make me stop being feral over Killer Trait

While I do feel a bit disappointed that Oz wasn't a yandere character, honestly I think it was obvious given how the plot turned out. I think it wouldn't really matter much since if Oz really was a yandere, then it would, in a sense, undermine MC's conflict. The entire thing is that MC was betrayed and falsely accused by someone they trusted genuinely, and if Oz was a yandere he would either manipulate or imprison MC but with how MC is designed it would just add on another layer of conflict that doesn't feel necessary.

MC is very independent and knows their goals, they're very determined so Oz just being their partner in crime and watching MC fall further to madness of wanting to get back at the traitor would make much more sense than if Oz was a yandere (and I like dark MCs because of the unreliable narrator and twists of perspective). Either way, I'm looking forward to how the plot would progress!
